A crowd is already holding the lights.
Every room full of people is a room full of bright screens that nobody is using together. Wildlights is the attempt to use them — properly, in time, and without asking anyone to install anything.
What it is
Wildlights turns the phones in a room into one synchronized light show, built automatically from the song you are playing. A stadium, a ballroom, a gym, a back garden. Guests scan one code; there is nothing to buy, hand out or clear up.
Where it is up to
It is in beta, and that word is doing real work. What exists is finished enough to run: the show builder, the groups, the preview, live control, listening to an external source, and the flash safety that runs underneath all of it. What does not exist yet is a long record of nights in real rooms, and the honest thing is to say so rather than to imply otherwise with stock photographs and testimonials nobody gave.
So there are no customer quotes on this site. When there are real ones, they will appear with real names attached.
How it is built
Two things shaped most of the decisions.
The room has to agree on now. Phones run the show from a shared event clock rather than their own, and they are given the whole show up front so the network is not in the loop beat by beat. That is what makes a crowd land together instead of rippling.
The show has to read as a show. Lights that change constantly look like noise; lights that never change look broken. The show builder pulls the parts of a mix apart — the kick, the bass, the hats, the lead — and gives them to different parts of the room, holds a lit bed underneath so the crowd stays visible, and saves the big moments for the places the music actually earns them.
What it will not do
- Upload your music. Songs are analysed in your own browser. The server receives the light show, not the audio.
- Collect your guests. Joining takes no account, no name and no email. A guest answers your one question, or not even that.
- Flash beyond the limit you set. The limit is measured on what phones will really display, and shows that exceed it get changed until they do not.
